July 3, 2010 Joy Comes Forth In The Break Of Day

What does it matter as the night folds into dreams of better times.  The dawn is but hours away and the delight of joy my eye will come upon the next morning. Lilies greet July with colors never thought of.  The nurserys and catalouges bulge with the delights that await us, if we only order and wait aprehensively for them to arrive.  Jungs nursery here in Wisconsin often has specials so you can receive a package of assorted colors.  There are many other nurserys that give you catalouges to choose them from.  Over the years I have added theses delights to my gardens and will share them with you.
The above picture shows they even bloom in the shade which I have a lot of.  This one above gets a sprinkle of the suns rays in the morning, enough to let is survive.

These are Oriental lilies, Asiatic Lilies, and Trumpet Lilies that I am sharing with you.  The easyiest way to plant is to order balbs or buy them from a nursery.  They are easy to plant, follow directions on package for depth and space between.  As you see they come in all different shades and color.  Take their pictures around 4:00 P.M. to catch the best color.  That is when I take mine.

The sight of these delightful flowers is enough to give you joy but the scent lures you even closer.  Having asthma, the medicine I take not only defuses bad smells that trigger an attack it also numbs the sensory gift of scent and I really miss the love of having pollen left on my nose as I inhaled the perfume of each beauty.  I can only thank God for the gift of sharing His beauty in sight!

As with all happiness, delight and joy,  there is a sifting of pain, loss, cloud filled days.  One such day came this week.  We had a silkie chicken hatch out a peacock egg that Dick slipped under her and it was doing fine until I found her dead in the nest.  Mother Silkie was in a fret about it all as she kept clucking all day and running around franticaly trying to find it after we removed it.  Nature can be so heavenly and then cruel with the loss of life.  I especially feel it with the animals we care for.  I lost two horses and the pain is unbearable and I kind of felt like the silkie running around wishing they were back years ago.  But then dawn comes and a new fresh day of adventures of its own.  How silly to live in the past,  missing out on todays fruits of life.  Just like that same silkie, the next day she went about her business of hunting for bugs, chasing a fellow silkie away from her spot and getting on with life, so do I, put things behind and catch the joy of the day.

We had a surprise one morning, waking up to a honking that peacocks make.  It was right outside our window in the rock garden that climbs the hill next to our house.  We thought our two peacocks we pen down by the horse barn had gotten out, but when Dick ran down to check they were still in there snug as a bug in a rug.  Seems we got a visit from a stray that escaped from another place.  She walked through the head high grass she was surrounded with peeking out at us.  Tame, but a little skiddish.  She worked her way down to the peacocks, down in their pen and Dick opened the cage door and she walked in to peck at the corn he had scattered on the soil.  We called around but did not find anyone missing her.  We put an add in the local paper for Lost and Found so will see if that brings us her owner.

Below are pictures of the neighboring farmer's corn crib he gave us.  He also put it on a wagon and delivered it to us and helped get it put upright.  Dick, our son Chris, and our neighbor discussing how to get this upright. The Peacock shed is to the right and attached to a large fenced in outside run which was then attached to the corn crib with an opening for the peacocks to go through.

There were a lot of discussions as to the best way to get this thing in place and lots of joking around about letting our son Chris stay in there.  But with the help of our neighbor and his tractor it got lifted up and in place and is a great addition for our peacocks because they love to be up high where they can see all around.  Birds eye view they say......They will even stay up there high on the perch in winter.  The cold does not seem to bother them.

This is our bi-colored male who screeches very loud when  ever he hears something loud.  He  lets the world know he is louder!  ^_^

This is the peacock that found us this past week and hopefully the paper will bring us the people who lost him.  Here it is keeping close to our female peacock who is blocked from coming into the corn crib.  When we put them together there was a big fight so they will have to stay this way until we can get another arrangement.

So now I will leave you for another week and next blog will tell the tale if we found the owner of the stray peacock or if Dick has to build the shed they shelter in during the winter much bigger.

Find the joy waiting for you to recognize it ......
What seems upside down is just a turn over of better things coming.
